Some Background on Scott - Part 3

We continue the ongoing series.  In case you missed them:

Some Background on Scott - Part 1
Some Background on Scott - Part 2

These are from a list of questions from a personality profile system my father sent me as a suggestion for blog topics.  Enjoy.

What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)

I'd like to think I am pretty good at observation and prediction.  Though recently I have become aware that when I am emotionally involved, my ability to observe and predict is severely compromised.   This ability to see what's really going on is what I think makes me good at my job.  All the subtle hints allow me to draw conclusions rather quickly that are usually right on the money.

What do people typically ask you for help in?

All IT professionals end up doing tech support for their friends/family.  For those close to me I am usually asked for advice. The same skills I mentioned in the last questions, my insight into situations seems to be very good unless my own emotions are involved in which case I tend to be very very wrong.  Means I'm usually great at giving advice to others, but often fail to be able to follow it for myself. :(

If you had to teach something, what would you teach?

I'd love to find a way to teach problem solving.  However it's a skill I find that you can hone, but if you don't have it you don't have it.

What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?

I think being  a father has been the most interesting and fantastic challenge of my life.  I think if we had chosen not to have children it would have been the biggest mistake of my life.

You are now 90 years old, sitting on a rocking chair outside your porch; you can feel the spring breeze gently brushing against your face. You are blissful and happy, and are pleased with the wonderful life you’ve been blessed with. Looking back at your life and all that you’ve achieved and acquired, all the relationships you’ve developed; what matters to you most? List them out.

This is clearly my family.   I look forward to seeing the men my boys will become.  I would look forward to having my wife by my side the entire time and being able to share all of those memories of our life together.  Everything else, career, trips, experiences...none of that really matters to me.  What is important is knowing that I was a good father and husband for my family.

We've only got a few more questions so I think I'll save that for the grand finale.
